First of all, I was laughing so hard while reading this that David (my 4 1/2 year old) came to look over my shoulder...unfortunately I forgot he can sound out some words now, and as he announced cr...a...p I had to quickly switch screens...
But more importantly, let me add another wrinkle to this story:
Usually you expect the older sibling of a new baby to regress with potty training, but Ella did not at all! (In fact it seems she potty-trained right after Addison was born) At first glance that may seem good, but in reality (whether we admit it in polite mom-company or not) a 2 year old in diapers is WAY easier to deal with than a newly potty trained 2 year old!! Especially when you have an infant to care for...My daughter, on the other hand (the same age and a friend of Ella's) has no younger sibling, and was fully potty trained...until she met Addison! Who knows why, maybe she was trying to be supportive to Ella--or more likely jealous of Amy's attention, but ever since she saw adorable little baby Addi she completely and steadfastly reverted to diapers! In addition she pretends to be "baby Addison" at least 3 times a day and I am "Amy"... At first it was pretty cute (and of course I aspire to being Amy anyway...) but I have to say 6 weeks later it is starting to wear a little thin...not to mention the expense of all the diapers. Then again, as I read "A really crappy day" I couldn't help feeling a little (guilty) relief that I don't have to drag a potty all over town (and the public potty/sharing germs really gets to me--especially when they grab the toilet seat firmly with two hands to balance themselves...)
Now I did hear of a novel approach from one of the nurses at work--I never tried it, and probably can't recommend it as it sounds very likely to soak/soil mom too, but she swears by it for her daughter...she (the mom) layers the nasty public toilet with paper liners, and then sits backwards on the toilet...she then sits her daughter straddling across mom's legs facing mom...then, if you can believe it, the 2 year old reportedly feels brave enough to pee into the potty (and somehow doesn't spray all over mom????) Keep in mind before you even consider trying this, that all nurses are born competent and able to accomplish the impossible easily--especially when it comes to bodily fluids!! If it works, let me know--I am still too chicken to even think about trying it...never mind how this experience might sound if it emerges in hypno-therapy later in life!!!
Well, the pizza girl is here, and "Between the Lions" is over, so I better go...here's to getting through the day however you can!
Cheers...Kate

Poop is just foul. I never thought that I would be faced with so much poop, and OTHER PEOPLE'S poop, so much in my life. Luckily, kids are damn cute...

At least it was not diarrhea. We had that in the car the whole to New Jersey a couple of weeks ago. Nice.
