First Down

Ella, looking at a t-shirt catalog: “Mommy, what’s that man doing?”

Me, only half paying attention: “I don’t know, honey.”

Ella: “Maybe he’s making a first down!”

Me, surprised that she knows something about the game other than tackling and scoring touchdowns: “Who taught you about first downs?”

Ella: “Not Notre Dame!”

Just Barely holding out hope that 0-3 (now 0-4) won’t make it to 0-5 today,
