Midwest Girl Survives Winter in the South
Midwest Girl Survives Winter in the South: Cold in the Carolinas III
If you live anywhere in the midwest or eastern United States you’re likely cold as balls right now. (not sure what that means, but I’m too cold to think it through) I’m typing with gloves on each hand and have each of my feet in a cup on coffee. But if you’re in Durham, there’s one thing you’re not, and that’s snowed in. And yet this morning I found myself with a three-year-old wielding thirty-four plastic dinosaurs (two of which are named Sleeping Beauty Dinosaur) in my bed like a chump. Why? Because of the thought of the possibility of the potential for a chance of a flake of snow sends sends Southerners into such a tizzy that by BCS game time last night school was put on two hour delay for this morning.
I’ve experienced two actual snowfalls this winter. One was in Durham, and one happened while we were in Omaha, Nebraska.

The day it actually did snow in Durham this year, the place went nuts. Schools sent kids home early this day in anticipation of the flakes that surely posed a danger to students and the poor souls who would have to venture out in the terrible weather to pick them up at 3:00. SAHS was scheduled to have surgery to have his guts tucked back in (I believe the medical term is a “hernia repair”) that afternoon and he actually got bumped up because there were flurries in the forecast so people were postponing having surgery. “Well, my arm is off, and I really should have it reattached today, but that would mean I might get snow on my stump so I better wait until spring…”.
According to the Weather Channel, we amassed an amazing 1.01 inches that day. Someone actually put a video of the atmospheric horror on YouTube.
Meanwhile, throughout the great city of Omaha, beer runs were made up until the hour four wheel drive vehicles got stuck in ten foot snow drifts and had to be dug out during their December blizzard. I know because this happened to our family twice.
People, THIS is a reason for a snow day:

Further, THIS is a newsworthy story:
Cops: Pa. man steals $50, flees on Wal-mart scooter
UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Police say a Pennsylvania man in a hospital gown stole $50 from his ex-girlfriend at Wal-Mart, then tried to flee on a store-owned motorized shopping scooter. Thirty-two-year-old Craig David Jr., of Smithfield, was charged Wednesday with robbery and disorderly conduct. State police Cpl. Chuck Frey says David had just been released from a hospital for injuries in a domestic dispute Jan. 1. Frey says David had been hit with a frying pan and table leg. David was still in a hospital gown Tuesday night when he met an ex-girlfriend who agreed to pay for his prescription medication. Instead, police say he grabbed $50 from her and scooted away. David remained jailed Thursday. He does not have an attory.

We do it up right here in Omaha, don’t you think?
OMG LMFAO… Dude I’m in Wisconsin. My boss is all like “so, it’s snowing, get to work on time, eh?” No sympathy from cannucks. NONE. They just ignore it and drive on. Ugh…. I’m from Colorado, where yeah it does snow, but it’s more of a happy fun snow. Here in WI, it’s more of a kill you and find your body in the spring kinda snow.
Yep, here in Wisconsin, the 10 inch snowfall we just had did add 10 minutes to my 45 min commute, while reports that we “Might” have snow, shut down our atlanta office.
Same thing in Little Rock with the sad excuses for a snow day. We typically get a good “icing,” around February. It’s no fun to play in, and you actually do get stuck until someone comes by with salt–because no one here keeps that on hand–it’s Little Rock!!
I grew up in the south and yeah, if they called for snow everything shut down. Now I live in Ohio and we have over 2 feet, yet they somehow make it to school every day.
